2010 Spring Fellowship in Korean Studies

The Korea Society is pleased to announce openings for 10 American
educators to participate in its sixth annual Spring Fellowship in
Korean Studies program, to be held in Korea from April 1 to April 12,
2010. The application deadline for participation in the fellowship has
been extended until February 5. The fellowship program includes a
study tour of important historic and contemporary locations in Korea,
coupled with lectures and discussions on Korean history and culture
with top Korean studies experts. The fees for the program will be
fully funded by the Freeman Foundation and the Academy of Korean
Studies in Korea. We encourage you to apply, or let your fellow
educators know about this opportunity.

Applications are welcomed from anyone who meets one or more of the
following criteria: 1) social studies supervisors at the state or
district level; 2) K-12 educators who have enrolled in two or more of
the in-service educational programs offered by The Korea Society; or
3) alumni/ae of The Korea Society’s Summer Fellowship in Korean
Studies program, provided they have not visited Korea under the
auspices of an organized study tour for at least three years.
Preference will be given to applicants whose statement of purpose best
matches the eligibility criteria for the category in which they are
applying.

The Spring Fellowship in Korean Studies is a tremendous learning
opportunity. The lectures, concentrated in the initial phase of the
program, will be delivered by prominent scholars from leading Korean
universities on topics such as language, art, architecture,
literature, and economics, as well as various sociopolitical topics
surrounding the country’s division into North and South. The classroom
component of the program is complemented by a travel itinerary that
takes participants on a docent-led tour of places of historical and
cultural significance, including royal palaces, shrines, museums, and
historical districts, both in Seoul and throughout the southern Korean
Peninsula.

The 2010 spring fellowship is a great opportunity to explore Korea in
depth and contribute to better understanding between the peoples of
Korea and the United States. Please refer to The Korea Society’s
